DetailDr. Surita Jhangiani is a co-author of the first published study on student perceptions of open textbooks in British Columbia (“Investigating the Perceptions, Use and Impact of Open Textbooks: A Survey of Postsecondary Students in British Columbia,” International Review of Research in Open and Distributed Learning, 2017). She serves on the Open UBC Working Group and is involved in planning OER workshops at UBC during the current academic year. Dr. Jhangiani also received an OER grant to develop ancillary resources that complement the open materials used in her courses.

In 2023, Dr. Jhangiani was selected as a UDL Fellow and applied Universal Design for Learning principles in EPSE 308: Development, Learning and Culture in the Classroom. Her project focused on intentionally embedding students’ culturally lived experiences into the learning environment and curriculum, while fostering spaces where both learners and instructors feel safer to take risks, ask questions, and remain authentic.
